After an initial spurt of new apartment building construction, many long-time property owners worried the neighborhood was losing its character. In response, the Greater Golden Hill Community Plan would limit large-scale apartment communities, while also pledging to authorize another 2,000 homes—the preponderance of which would be zoned and used as duplex and mixed-use complexes more compatible with the quaint residential feel—even if it is just a stone’s throw from downtown San Diego. 

In turn, these rental homes and shared living solutions should help people find their spot in San Diego, especially for those who get frustrated by the ultra-competitive San Diego housing market. In a couple years, it could be that rather than a downtown apartment community, the best answer for you lies in Golden Hill rental home.

Still, new apartment construction hasn’t come to a halt. Not at all. Across the city, new apartment communities are being planned that will boast plenty of their own retail, dining, and entertainment businesses. K1 and The Sliver are a joint high-rise and low-rise apartment community that will be located right across the stress from the San Diego Central Library. Just north of downtown, Jefferson Pacific Beach will offer 172 luxury apartment units right along Mission Bay Park. Still, you don’t have to stick to downtown San Diego to find walkable, beach communities. Pierside Apartments, for example, have an amazing Oceanside location for those looking further north.
