Permanent (NTS) Storage and OCONUS Deployment Support

A deployment outside the continental U.S. (OCONUS) often comes with an entitlement for non-temporary storage (NTS), also known as permanent storage. Rather than haul everything you own halfway across the world, the government typically offers to store some amount of your household goods for the length of your deployment.

Find and talk to your local Transportation Office for more details about the entitlements and authorizations that come with your individual orders. Or, if you’re looking for a preview of what to expect with personally-procured NTS and for subtle differences between the different branches of the Armed Services, you’re not going to find a better source than this portal from the Defense Personal Property System (DPS).

Permanent Storage Options

You may have a choice between government-procured and personally-procured permanent storage that essentially follows the same guidelines and tradeoffs as other PCS moves. Here’s why Closetbox is different: We specialize in permanent storage. Simply put, we’re not the best choice for short-term storage that may arise with other PCS moves. On the other hand, our complimentary pickup, digital inventory, secure facilities, and on-demand return make us a great option for most any type of NTS entitlement (or for permanent storage that goes beyond your weight allowance).

Save a little time and know that your things are safe and ready to be returned with quick turnaround times. Put another way, since you’re going to have to take care of the paperwork regardless, let us make the rest of your permanent storage hassle-free and still competitively-priced. It’s really that simple.

Military Families OCONUS

Sometimes, military families are part of an overseas PCS. Just starting this process? Here’s a great collection of resources that will help you understand the scope of the move and find relevant checklists for your destination. (Wait till you find out, for example, that it’s customary for middle-class families in Singapore to have a live-in housekeeper.)

Local Resources for Military Families

We’re a great NTS solution for military families, but this is just one small piece of a much larger puzzle. We recommend any military family with reasonable access to a Focus Center strongly consider resiliency training. You may also be able to find help from local organizations for your basic necessities and everyday household chores.

To this end, we’re also working on building out our network of local military family resources.
